Sir Roger Casement

Sir Roger Casement

Sir Roger Casement (1864–1916) was an Irish diplomat and humanitarian activist, renowned for his investigations into human rights abuses in the Congo Free State and the Peruvian Amazon. His 1904 report on the Congo exposed the brutal exploitation of indigenous peoples under King Leopold II's regime, leading to significant international reforms. Some of his earliest work on the African continent was done in Calabar, Nigeria.

Casement's legacy of championing human rights and social justice lives on through the fellowship that bears his name, inspiring a new generation of leaders committed to these values.
